What is ‘wealth management’ the JMC Way?

For us, wealth management isn’t just about investments and financial planning. No question, having the right investments in a well-balanced and appropriately allocated portfolio is important. At the same time, we believe that the way your assets are managed should directly reflect what you want out of life. Do you still have children to educate? Do you have any plans to move, and if so are you planning to buy or sell a home? Might you want a vacation home–or to take regular vacations? How long will you keep working? If and when you do retire, what kind of lifestyle do you want to live? What support do you plan to continue to provide for your family? Are there any causes you would like to support?

Through eliciting your responses during an in-depth, discovery process we work with you to understand your entire financial situation from past, present, and future and help you identify your goals. then we look at how attainable they are in what timeframe and what changes might be necessary in earned income, investments, and investment income, savings and spending practices, in order to help you work towards those goals in the desired timeframe. We always encourage our clients to be realistic–but at the same time, dream big! Small changes can sometimes spur major advantage in helping you pursue those big dream goals!

Through a combination of asset structuring, financial planning, and tax planning, our goal is to help you achieve your dreams. Wealth management the JMC Wealth way can help you determine what you truly desire in life, then help you develop personalized, actionable strategies for pursuing your goals.

Planning Your Future Together

Our first official meeting with a client is called the “discovery interview.” This is where we spend about 90 minutes taking a financial history, looking not just at what investments and insurance you have but also why you selected them. We try to see what is really important to you and how your current holdings might or might not be helping you toward that goal. Recognizing real emotional needs can help you live the life you desire, but only if it is accompanied by sound financial planning based on the whole person.

Once we have this picture, we can draw a map of your financial situation. We think in short-term, intermediate-term and long-term timelines. We assess your possible need for short-term cash and your willingness to accept risk in the hopes of potential future gains. When we have completed this assessment we ask you to return to discuss it. We want you to feel free to react but do not want you to make any commitments. At the third meeting we are ready to discuss your reactions to the financial roadmap, make any changes you need, and move toward the implementation process: selecting and purchasing the products needed to complete your portfolio. We can also discuss your potential need for other professional strategic partners such as a tax accountant, a Wills and Trusts attorney, etc.

As independent certified financial planners, we have no stake in steering you towards or away from any particular products or product lines–although we do give you our best advice based on our extensive knowledge and experience. We earn our living serving YOU. You can bank on it!
